- E.P. Dutton: The copyright page will say first edition.
- John Wiley and Sons: If there is no printing designation it is a first edition. Later runs list the printing.
- The Mall has both ''First Editions: A Guide to Identification'', and the handy pocket guide, ''McBrides Guide to First Editions'' for sale.
